OTT app development for TV, mobile and web.

Streaming apps that feel right on a television remote and on a phone — catalog, playback, accounts, subscriptions and payments, built on your existing content and streaming infrastructure. Based in Kochi, Kerala.

01 · WHAT AN OTT APP NEEDS

More than a video player

A working OTT product is a set of connected pieces: a catalog and metadata source, a content management layer, user accounts and profiles, entitlement and subscription logic, payments, playback with the right stream format, and analytics that tell you what people actually watch.

I build the client apps and can implement the Laravel API and admin layer behind them, or integrate with a platform you already use. Playback connects to your streaming and DRM vendor rather than being rebuilt from scratch.

02 · TV UX

Designing for a remote, not a touchscreen

Television users sit metres from the screen and navigate with four arrow keys. Focus states, row layouts, playback controls, text sizes and the back behaviour all need to be designed for that distance — a mobile layout stretched onto a TV is immediately obvious and feels broken.

This is the part I have shipped most: Android TV and Fire TV interfaces with predictable focus movement, fast resume, sensible buffering states and remote-friendly search and profiles.

03 · PLATFORMS

Which screens to launch on first

Most OTT products start with Android TV and Fire TV, then add mobile for viewing on the move, then web for reach and SEO. Trying to launch on every platform at once usually delays the whole thing.

I will help sequence the rollout so the first release covers the audience that matters and the rest follow once the catalog and monetisation are proven.

04 · LAUNCH

Subscriptions, payments and the boring parts

Recurring revenue brings its own work: plan and pricing setup, free trials, proration, failed-payment retries, cancellation, invoices and GST handling in India. Play Store and App Store billing rules also differ from web checkout, and mixing them up causes rejections.

I implement the payment and entitlement flow that matches how you sell, then test the awkward cases — upgrade mid-cycle, card failure, refund, device limit — before launch rather than after the first complaint.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Working together

How much does it cost to build an OTT app?

It depends on how much exists already. If you have a streaming platform and catalog, the work is mainly the client apps and playback integration. If the catalog, subscriptions and admin panel also have to be built, the scope is closer to a full product. I quote after reviewing your content and billing setup.

Which platforms should we launch on?

For most Indian OTT products, Android TV and Fire TV first, then Android and iOS mobile, then web. The right order depends on where your audience watches and how your content is licensed.

Can you work with our existing streaming or DRM provider?

Yes. I integrate the player with the stream format and DRM solution your provider supplies, rather than replacing infrastructure that already works.

Do you build live streaming as well as video on demand?

Yes, VOD and live are both possible. Live adds work around EPG, catch-up, low-latency playback and load spikes, so it is scoped separately.

Can you build the subscription and payment system?

Yes. Plans, trials, renewals, cancellations, invoices and GST can be handled in the backend, with Play Store and App Store billing where the platform requires it.
