Freelance app development for Dubai and the UAE.

Businesses in the Gulf do not need another agency layer in Dubai. They need a senior developer who can ship an Android and iOS product, connect the local payment stack and be online during Gulf hours. I work from Kochi — 90 minutes ahead of Dubai — and deliver remotely for clients across the UAE and the wider GCC.

01 · REMOTE, NOT DISTANT

The timezone argument is real

Kochi runs on IST (UTC+5:30); the UAE runs on Gulf Standard Time (UTC+4). That is a 90-minute difference, not the eight-hour gap that makes some offshore teams effectively asynchronous. A 9am call in Dubai is 10:30am here, and the working day overlaps almost completely.

You talk to the person writing the code. There is no account manager relaying decisions, and no handoff to a different team after the contract is signed.

02 · WHAT GETS BUILT

What UAE teams actually need

The work in the Gulf often looks like retail and loyalty apps, real-estate and property-viewing tools, logistics and fleet apps, healthcare and clinic bookings, hospitality and tourism products, and event platforms.

Most of them are English-first with Arabic requirements, a wide range of Android devices and customers who expect the app to work on a mid-range phone over a patchy connection.

03 · LOCAL DETAILS

Arabic, payments and data residency

Arabic support is more than swapping labels: layouts need to mirror for RTL, typography needs an Arabic font with the right line height, and dates and numbers need consistent formatting. I build the app to support translated content; the Arabic copy itself should come from a translator who knows your market.

Payments depend on your trade licence and bank: Network International, Telr, PayTabs, Checkout.com, Amazon Payment Services and Stripe are all common, alongside Apple Pay and Google Pay. Digital goods inside the app still need App Store or Play billing. UAE PDPL also makes data location, retention and consent worth deciding before launch, not after.

04 · DELIVERY

How a remote engagement runs

The engagement starts with a scoped discovery call in Gulf hours, then agreed milestones and a written scope. Work happens in short build cycles with a staging build you can install and review. Store submissions happen under your accounts, with the release checklist handled properly.

Most engagements run fully remote. If an in-person workshop is genuinely essential for a larger project, we can discuss it case by case rather than pretending there is a Dubai office.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Working together

Can you work with UAE clients remotely?

Yes. I am based in Kochi, 90 minutes ahead of Gulf Standard Time, so UAE business hours overlap with mine. Calls, staging builds and releases all happen in that window. Invoices are usually raised in INR or USD; your finance team can confirm what their systems accept.

Do you support Arabic in the app?

I build RTL-ready layouts, integrate Arabic fonts and wire in translated copy. I do not write the Arabic copy myself — that should come from a translator who understands your customers — but I make sure the app displays it correctly across screens and devices.

Which payment gateways work in the UAE?

Network International, Telr, PayTabs, Checkout.com, Amazon Payment Services and Stripe are common, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. Approval depends on your trade licence, bank and merchant category. Digital content sold in the app still has to use store billing.

Do we need a local contract or company in the UAE?

Not necessarily. Many UAE businesses contract directly with an Indian developer under a written scope and NDA. Your legal and finance teams should confirm the contract and VAT treatment for your entity; I provide the documentation they need.

Why hire you instead of a Dubai agency?

You get a senior developer directly, without agency overhead or a sales-to-delivery handoff. If you specifically need an on-site team, local account management or a large multi-disciplinary group, an agency may be the better fit — I would rather say that than take work that does not suit the model.
