Event apps that work on the day, not just on the poster.

An event app has one unforgiving deadline and a venue full of people with unreliable Wi-Fi. The useful build is the one that gets people checked in, tells them what changed and keeps working when the network does not.

01 · THE DAY-OF PROBLEM

Most event apps fail at the door

Ticket lookup, QR scanning, duplicate check-in, badge printing and a fallback list are the flows that matter when a queue forms. If the check-in screen depends on a live API call and the venue Wi-Fi drops, the event starts late. I design an offline-capable check-in path with a clear sync and conflict rule.

The agenda, speaker details and maps are important, but they are easier to get right. The operational flow is where the real risk sits.

02 · SCOPE

Ticketing, agenda, check-in and updates

A focused event app usually includes event details, agenda, speakers, ticket or registration status, QR check-in, push announcements and a map or venue guide. For multi-day or multi-track events, the agenda needs filters and personal schedules. For workshops, seat limits and waitlists matter more than a large catalogue.

Payments and refunds should be reconciled on the server, not inferred from the app. I can integrate an existing ticketing provider or build the registration flow directly.

03 · OPERATIONS

Plan for changes after the app is published

Sessions move, speakers cancel and rooms change. The team needs a way to update the agenda and send a notification without waiting for an app-store review. I build an admin surface for the content and the announcements, and I make the app handle stale data gracefully.

After the event, the app can become a simple archive or be retired. That decision should be made at the start so the maintenance and store costs do not come as a surprise.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Working together

Can the app work without internet at the venue?

The check-in flow can work from a preloaded attendee list and sync later. The agenda and announcements may still need a connection, so the app should show what is cached and what is stale rather than pretending everything is live.

Can you integrate our ticketing provider?

Yes, if it exposes an API or a usable export. I can also build registration and payment flows directly. The important part is a single source of truth for ticket status.

Do you build QR check-in?

Yes. I can build scanning, duplicate detection, manual lookup and an offline fallback list. The admin view shows who has checked in and what needs syncing.

Can you support multi-day or multi-track events?

Yes. The agenda model can support days, tracks, rooms and personal schedules. I would scope the filters and the admin publishing flow early because they affect the data model.

Can we send announcements during the event?

Yes. Push notifications and an in-app notice board can be managed from the admin surface. I would still keep a manual announcement process as a fallback.

How much does an event app cost?

It depends on ticketing, check-in, agenda complexity, payments and whether you need an admin surface. A single-day workshop app is a smaller build than a multi-track conference platform. The pricing guide explains the drivers.
