Dating apps built around trust, safety and real conversations.

The difficult part of a dating product is not the swipe animation. It is verification, discovery quality, safety, moderation and the question of what happens after two people match. I build those layers explicitly, and I am clear about where my experience overlaps with the category.

01 · PRODUCT REALITY

A dating app is a trust product before it is a matching product

Profiles, photos, location, preferences and conversations all create safety obligations. Verification, report and block flows, photo moderation, age gates and a clear privacy policy are not extras. They decide whether people feel safe enough to keep using the product.

I have shipped social discovery and paid conversation products, including real-time audio/video and moderation-heavy flows. I have not published a dating-specific case study, so I will be explicit about the overlap and the gaps when we scope the work.

02 · CORE LOOP

Discovery, match, conversation, safety

The first release usually needs onboarding, profile creation, photo upload, location or preference-based discovery, likes or matches, chat, report/block and an admin queue. Subscriptions or paid features can be added once the core loop is working, but the monetisation model should be designed early because it affects entitlement and visibility rules.

Matching can start as a simple rule set. A recommendation model is not the first problem to solve; an empty or repetitive feed is. I would rather build a useful discovery loop with clear controls than a black-box algorithm nobody can debug.

03 · SAFETY & OPERATIONS

The moderation queue is part of the product

Reports, blocks, photo review, message review, bans and appeals need an admin surface. The app also needs to handle account deletion, data export and location privacy properly. Those requirements are not optional if you distribute through the major app stores.

Paid conversations and calls add billing, consent and abuse-handling questions. I can build the flows and the admin tools, but the product policy has to be a shared decision, not something added after launch.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Working together

Have you built a dating app before?

I have shipped social discovery and paid conversation products, including real-time chat, audio/video and moderation-heavy flows. I have not published a dating-specific case study. I will tell you clearly where the overlap is strong and where your category needs product decisions I cannot pretend to have solved already.

How do you handle safety and moderation?

Report and block flows, photo review, an admin queue, bans and appeals are part of the build. The exact policy — what is allowed, what is removed and how quickly — is your product decision, and I will help turn it into an operable workflow.

Do you build matching algorithms?

I build a clear baseline first: preferences, filters, activity and mutual-interest rules. A more advanced recommendation model only makes sense once there is enough usage data to evaluate it.

Can users pay for calls or messages?

Yes. Wallet or subscription billing, per-minute call charges and entitlement checks can be built on the server. The app store rules for digital goods still apply, so the payment path has to be designed around them.

How do you protect location privacy?

Location should be approximate by default, with explicit controls and a clear explanation of what other users can see. Exact coordinates should not be exposed unless the product genuinely needs them.

How much does a dating app cost?

The core loop is a social product with additional safety and moderation work. Scope, verification, messaging, calls and monetisation drive the cost. A written scope is the only useful number; the pricing guide explains the drivers.
